The mayor of Port-au-Prince, Jean Yves Jason Muscadin announced yesterday an ambitious plan Thursday to conduct a proper celebration carnival for this year. The first citizen of the capital which is responsible for organizing most of these events indicates that he will need a budget of 40 million gourdes for this celebration of great popular rejoicing at the height of expectations. The festivities will extend over three days (from 22 to 24 February) as always and will be an opportunity to promote the Haitian identity and deep moral values of society, "said Mayor Jason which expects a record number of people and citizens in the diaspora. A change of course is also planned to give more chips to the party this year.

Jean Yves Jason Muscadin wished that Carnival 2009 will be the Carnival of all . Also, he expects a large mobilization of the private sector to help put more colors and new products and enable more bands to participate. The pre-carnival activities will also begin from this Sunday in the capital and throughout the country (this is the tradition that the carnival starts at the end of the Epiphany, the Feast of Kings).

Carnival is a festival event celebrating freedom through dancing, singing, parades, pageantry, music, drinks, food, friends and fun. It draws from elements of the African and French customs, including music, masquerades and dancing. Carnival is much more than a large part is the cultural glue that binds people together.
