The Oscar-winning director of "The Silence of the Lambs" has been interested in Haiti since the mid-1980s, when he lived around the corner from a Haitian art gallery. He has been collecting Haitian art ever since.
The 35 paintings by 14 self-taught artists evoke the everyday lives of Haiti's farmers, fishermen and lumberjacks. Many images portray the rugged beauty of the lush, mountainous island.
